So who's actually teaching this?
I'm Joep van Drunen, a photographer for more than 35 years, and just as much at home behind a video camera and in the edit since my twenties, 38 years now. An image-maker at heart: whether it's a photo or a film, it comes down to the same thing, looking carefully and capturing what's really happening at the right moment.
Those 35 years started with a first camera I never wanted to put down, and later got a formal foundation: I started at the Fotoacademie and, after switching schools, graduated as a professional photographer from the Fotovakschool. These days I photograph and film portraits, companies and teams daily, often for people who aren't used to standing in front of a camera.
That's exactly where this course comes from: not a curriculum dreamed up somewhere and only later put into practice, but the way of working I've used myself for decades, written down so you can learn it too.
What matters most to me in my work shows up in how this course is built: not just knowing which button does what, but learning to see the way someone who does this for a living sees, light, composition, what makes an image work or not. That's also why every block ends with feedback on your own work instead of just a video to watch.
I've never stopped learning myself either, even after my studies I kept taking courses to stay sharp. That same curiosity is in how I teach now.
Feedback on your assignments comes from me personally, no automated review. Stuck on something or want to talk it through? There's room for that: online, on location, or just at my place.
Hope to see you soon, online or just at my place.
